Design Project: Kiona's Room
The Space: An average sized upstairs bedroom with a 9 foot ceiling.
Design Challenge: Create a restful and sophisticated space for a young woman. Add a desk area, design a closet organizing system that's open to the room, and provide storage for jewelry.
Solution: The monochromatic gray color scheme is restful and formal symmetry on the bed wall sets the tone for sophistication. A pair of white nightstands with shiny mercury glass lamps flank a vintage wooden bed painted light gray. Textural fabrics and contemporary patterns dress the bed, and an upholstered bench at the foot is a little luxury. A trio of framed mirrors above the bed anchors the focal wall and fills the void created by the tall ceiling. On the side wall, personal photos framed in black are placed in a gallery style collection. At the closet wall, closet doors are removed in favor of a neat, white closet system with room for everything. A wall-mounted jewelry case faced with a full length mirror does double duty. A dark, vertical stripe on the wall draws the eye to the work space where a contemporary white desk and vintage chair are lit by a custom string lamp suspended from the ceiling. Long white drapes with a large scale modern print soften window. In Kiona's room contemporary meets tradition for a restful retreat.

Design Project: Alexis's Room
The Space: A 10' x 10' upstairs bedroom with a 9 foot tall ceiling.
Design Challenge: Create a space using bright colors for a 12 year-old girl, add a desk and storage for her nail polish collection.
Solution: The client's request for Tiffany blue walls and a teal chevron comforter were the starting point for this lively bedroom. Graphic paint on the walls improves the room's scale and takes the eye on a journey around the room. The door wall makes a bold statement with a moody piece of art set in a painted block of color. The bed wall features a brightly framed mirror placed on vintage doors, with places to hang necklaces, bracelets, and such. A white desk and vintage chair complete the vignette and provide a place to polish nails and work on the laptop. The client's existing white painted bed is put to use next to a black side table and a re-purposed metal chandelier painted a bold red-orange. The look is completed with the window framed by floor length drapes in a modern bohemian print. On the closet wall, the client's large collection of nail polish is organized and accessible in a wall mounted lucite rack that's out of sight when the bedroom door is open. Alexis's room is boho bright with
one-of-a-kind style.
